Skied in tracks at
PLPP are in pretty good shape considering. Loop B was
particularly pleasant this morning. Loop C was a little
crusty but still quite skiable.
We should be able to get in a couple more good morning skis
before it's done.
Monday, April8th
With 5-6 inches of
new snow in the last couple of days, skied in tracks in the
Park are in great shape. This could last for the rest of
the week with the best skiing in the
morning.
Saturday, April 6th
What
can I say? Last weekend I was riding my motorbike
andx-country
skiing. This
weekend I'm looking out the window and scratching my head!
What's going on here?
Well, after all, I guess it's springtime in Alberta and
anything can be expected.
What I can say for sure is that tracksetting is over for
the season. Skied in tracks are the order of the remaining
days of the season. Could be ok for the next few days.
Just a moment to say thanks for the resounding support for
the rec grant and skiing in the Park. Your
response was overwhelming and very much appreciated. I'll
let you know the outcome as soon as I can…. Mike
Saturday,
March 30th
Spring ski conditions at Pigeon
Lake Provincial Park continue to be good.
Tracks are beginning to shallow out but are still very
skiable.
I've been using red klister on my old skis but have talked
to people who are using yellow and red wax. Whatever works
for you is the best rule.
Remember…… hard and icy in the morning, soft and kind of
slushy (depending on temp) in the afternoon and early
evening.
Enjoy…. it's almost over.
Friday,
March 22nd
Trails at Pigeon Lake Provincial
Park and Rundle's Mission have been groomed and trackset.
Ski conditions at Pigeon Lake are
muy bueno!!
Monday,March
18th
Trails at
Pigeon Lake Provincial Park and Rundle's Mission have been
groomed and trackset.
Ski conditions at Pigeon Lake this week are
Superb.
Saturday, March 16th
Due
to ever changing and unpredictable weather conditions,
trails at Pigeon Lake will not be trackset until Monday.
There is a base of good solid tracks under the new snow so
skied-in tracks will be the order of the weekend.
Have a great time out there. It's not going to last
forever!
Saturday, March 9th
Ski
trails at Pigeon Lake are in excellent conditions.
Please keep in mind that tracks are firm and fast in the
morning, soft and slow in the afternoons.
Have a great weekend!
Tuesday,March 4th
Just a
gentle reminder……. skied-in tracks in fresh new snow can
easily be ruined by dogs and foot traffic. The case is the
same with all tracks when temperatures rise above zero.
Please resist the temptation to walk or ski with your dogs
while these conditions exist. A frozen set track can handle
foot and pet traffic far better even as the temperature
hovers around the zero mark. On that note, I'm happy to
report the trails at PLPP and Rundle's have been groomed
and trackset.
Snow conditions are great and it looks like we're in for at
least another week of good spring
skiing!
Saturday, March 2nd
Tracks have been set at Pigeon
Lake Provincial park and Rundle's Mission.
The light and somewhat drier snowfall this evening and
tomorrow will leave the trails in top shape for skiing for
the time being.
Now we live day-to-day.
Have a great weekend.
Friday. March 1st
Rain
- 6 above. This weather sucks. Only cooler temperatures and
snowfall can salvage the trails at Pigeon Lake and save us
from the dreaded KLISTER.
Saturday, February 23
Tracks at Pigeon Lake Provincial
Park skied in nicely after the light snowfall early last
Sunday morning. We could use a little more snow so we'll
wait awhile longer before renovating. Like they say…… If it
ain't broke, don't fix it.
Trail conditions are GOOD.
Rundle's
will need some work on Saturday morning. Drifting on the
East end of the loops are a problem.
Have a great weekend!
Saturday, February 16th
Trails in the Pigeon Lake area
have suffered from recent weather events….. wind, rain and
warm temps.
Trails at
Rundle's are glazed, strewn with tree debris and drifted in
the usual spots. Conditions could be rated at fair and poor
in some areas.
Trails at PLPP are also glazed, not too much debris and
drifted in a few spots as well. Conditions could be rated
at fair and good in some areas.
The little bit of snow forecast could improve conditions
considerably. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
Have a great weekend.
Friday. February 8th
It is
reported….. I haven't been over to the Park for a few
days….. that the ski conditions at Pigeon Lake Provincial
Park are still good. Tracks are very firm but not glazed
and in good condition. We can assume that Rundle's trails
are in the same condition. Looks like a good day tomorrow
for the Birkie as well.
We should put together a small team of keeners for next
year's big ski.
Have a great weekend!
Friday, February 1st
Just
enough new snow and just the right temperature (barely) for
setting new tracks at Pigeon Lake Provincial Park and
Rundle's Mission last evening. If the weather doesn't get
too crazy in the next few days, cross country skiing at
Pigeon Lake is going to be just fine this weekend.
Have a good one!
Friday, January 25th
Trails at Pigeon Lake Provincial
Park and Rundle's Mission have been groomed and trackset.
Skiing conditions at Pigeon Lake are excellent and it looks
like it's going to be a great weekend to get out and have
some fun on the snow, wherever you may find yourself!
Remember to check out www.hiddensprings.ca as well.
The Whites welcome guests on their trails.
Saturday,
January 19th
Despite the
wacky weather lately, trails at Pigeon Lake Provincial Park
are in pretty good shape….. skied in track on a good firm
base with a little fresh snow on top.
I would have thought that Rundle's had fared as well but it
looks like a couple of snowmobiles messed up the first loop
somewhat. Too bad about that, but the rest of the trail is
in pretty well the same shape as PLPP although somewhat
windswept after tonight.
All-in-all, skiing at Pigeon Lake is looking good….. and a
bit chilly….. for Sunday.
Routine grooming and tracksetting will resume next
Thursday.
Loop A remains closed…… see below Happy
Trails…..
Friday, January 11th
Trails at Pigeon Lake Provincial
Park and Rundle's Mission remain in great condition
with a few cms of new snow on good firm tracks.
More snow is forecast for early next week so tracks will be
renovated accordingly.
Skiing in PLPP is limited to Loops B and C. Parking and
access to the trails is located on the West side of the
park on Hwy 771.
See Trail and Area maps for more info.
Monday, December 24th
Ski
trails at Pigeon Lake Provincial Park and Rundle's Mission
have been groomed and trackset.
Snow conditions at Pigeon Lake are excellent and it looks
like it's going to be a great week for skiing this holiday
season. A little chilly for a few more days but looking
very good for the weekend.
Just a couple of reminders…..
Skiing in PLPP is limited to Loops B and C. Parking and
access to the trails is located on the West side of the
park on Hwy 771.
See www.plnsc.com for area and
trail maps.
The Whites encourage folks to try the trails at Hidden
Springs Retreat near Winfield.
See www.hiddensprings.ca for more info
and directions
Have a great Christmas everyone and a Very Happy New Year.
See you on the trails!
Saturday, December 15th
Approximately 6.5 Kms of track
have been set at Pigeon Lake Provincial Park.
Snow conditions in the Park are good and I'm pleased
with the results.
Please remember that skiing is restricted to Loop's B &
C….. access and parking from 771. See…..www.plnsc.com and go to
'Trail & Area Maps'
Trail signs and maps will be out next week.
Watch for moose on or about the trail. Steve Fairway
mentioned that he saw four on his ski yesterday!
The main trailhead/parking area will not be open to the
public until the new year. Still hauling in gravel for the
new campsites.
Rundle's continues to be in great shape for skiing,
snowshoeing and hiking.
Saturday, December 9th
We've
had a few more inches of snow here in the Pigeon Lake
area and trails at Rundle's are freshly renovated.
Conditions this weekend will be very good for skiing,
hiking or snowshoeing at the Mission. Let's hope it
warms up a little.
Skiing is now allowed in Pigeon Lake Provincial Park using
the West link into the Park trails, East off of 771.
Skiers are restricted to loops 'C' and
'B'
and no tracks have been set. There's some gorgeous
snow in there!
See….. 'Trail and Area Maps' @ www.plnsc.com Watch for the
trail in from Hwy 771. Parking is limited and
I'm advised by the RCMP that parking on the highway
is legalbut
the vehicle should be well onto the shoulder.
The main road to the trailhead is still closed until
further notice.
Have a great weekend!
Friday, November 30th
We've
received a few cms of snow recently here in the Pigeon Lake
region and skiing conditions at Rundle's are quite good.
There's a few more in the forecast so I should be able to
renovate the tracks early next week.
Hopefully, soon we'll be able to ski in PLPP as well
.
I was informed recently that the White's are offering to
host skiers at their place. They live just North of Hwy 13
on RR 32. That's just a few miles East of Winfield. Very
nice groomed 6km loop in the woods .
Check out www.hiddensprings.ca for more info
and call Barbara or Neil at 780-682-2480 before you head
out.
Have a great weekend!
Saturday,
November24th
We've
received a few cms of snow recently and are able to upgrade
the trail conditions at Rundle's to GOOD again.
Should be a great weekend for skiing here at Pigeon Lake.
Pigeon Lake Provincial Park remains closed for skiing.
Friday,
November 16th Unfortunately Rundle's trails have
degraded somewhat from good to fair.
Although the warm weather has taken is toll on the snow and
some grass is showing on Southern exposures, skiing at
Rundle's is still very enjoyable.
PLPP remains closed.
Friday, November 9th
Trails at Rundle's
Mission have been packed, groomed and trackset.
Ski conditions are good….. and chilly.
Sunday is supposed to be much nicer.
Have a great weekend.
Thursday,
November 9th, 2012
Welcome to the 2012/13 edition of the
Pigeon Lake Nordic Ski Club ski season!
Just a short note to let you all know that
Pigeon Lake Provincial Park is closed to the publicat this time.
The Park has undergone extensive renovations this summer
and it looks like construction will continue into early
December. Park staff are making every effort to have the
trails open and accessible as soon as possible.
In the meantime, trails at
Rundle's Missionwill probably be ready for skiing
this weekend depending on how much
more snow we get in the next couple of days. At the very
least, trails will be packed and suitable for
skating/skijoring.
Watch for a Friday evening update.
Best Regards….. Mike
PS….. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the
costs of trail grooming and tracksetting this past
season. Very
much appreciated!!!
